Welcome to our new blog. We plan on sharing many different (hopefully helpful) articles here on topics from web design, database development, and even pc repair just to name a few.
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Ben Chambless and I am the owner of Spartan I.T. Solutions. I am based in Savannah, Georgia but today’s technology allows me to reach virtually every corner of the globe. God has blessed me with an amazing (and beautiful) wife and three awesome kids. My step-daughter (our oldest) is heading off to college in a couple of months so we are looking at a lot of changes around here. We also have a 13 year old boy and an 8 year old boy. We are blessed.
Now, what do we do here at Spartan I.T.? We do a LOT but we specialize in website design and database development/administration. Let’s look at those two items:
- Website Design/Development – This can be broken down into two functions. The front end design (UI) and the backend functionality. The UI is basically everything you see. A website that works but looks terrible and isn’t intuitive isn’t very useful. A successful website involves the UI and the backend. Speaking of the backend, this is the code and functions that make the website actually do something. Look at the contact form to the right…when you click the “Send Message” button there is code which is run which does several things. First it checks to see if you have filled out the required fields. If you haven’t then it tells you. If you have, then it sends an email to us with the details from the form. The UI is important but the backend is vital. A beautiful website is useless if it doesn’t work.
- Database Development/Administration – I’m not sure if you know this or not but databases run the world. Virtually all information is stored in a database these days. We’ve come a long way from Access databases. Now we have fully cloud based relational databases capable of storing billions of rows of data. Here at Spartan I.T. we can help you create a new database or optimize an existing one. We also write custom procedures and functions to help you actually use your data.
Now, this all comes together in full featured web based applications which use a database for backend data and a website for front end UI. I have been building these types of sites for over 18 years.
My first site like this was for a friend. He was selling hunting equipment and needed an ecommerce site. This was back in 1999 so there weren’t a lot of options out there like there are now. I built his site and then added his products to a database. It was a very successful site and I was hooked. The ability to build something from scratch…starting with a blank screen and to see it turn into something where someone could make a purchase online…it was so cool. We take this for granted in this day and age.
So, that’s a little about me. My future articles will be informational and some with be geared towards business users and some will target other tech heads like myself.
Thanks for taking the time to read my little introduction, have a great week.
